Shampoos for Dandruff
If home remedies are not yielding any beneficial improvements then there are certain over the counter shampoos that can be used to wash hair and control dandruff. One can look for ingredients like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithone, selenium sulphide in your shampoos. In case of severe dandruff condition keratolytic agents like coal tar, salicylic acid based shampoos can be used. These will help to dislodge the dandruff flakes from the skin and help remove it further. Always consult your dermatologist before using any of these medicated shampoos.

There are few tips we need to keep in mind before opting for any medicated shampoo:

  • Read the instructions very carefully that are mentioned at the back of the bottle before using. As few shampoos are to be washed immediately whereas other should be left for a few minutes. So, read before you use them.

  • Shampoos for dandruff should be used only on scalp and not the hair length. As they can make hair dry and frizzy. We can either use normal shampoos for hair length or It will be beneficial to use conditioners after shampoo which will combat the dryness.

If these treatments or home remedies do not turn out be beneficial or we experience any kind of redness and itching on scalp or witness any dandruff like flakes on any other body areas like eyebrows, nose or chest; then it’s high time to consult a dermatologist. This could not be some other skin concern like psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis or could be an allergy due to hair color. So, the right diagnosis is required to initiate the right treatment and improve the condition and a dermatologist is the best person to help us with this.
