How often should one do a Medifacial?

Medifacial has been something which we all look up to these days, as we are aware that medifacials are the solution to our multiple skin concerns like dullness, tanning, pigmentation, acne, hydration and even signs of ageing. But most of the time we are not aware that how often can we get the treatment done. At what frequency is it safe to repeat the treatment? A skin expert treats your skin by cleansing deeply and customizing the treatments to address your skin concerns in a way to give you smooth, soft and plump skin making you wonder how soon can you come back again for this experience.

Firstly, we need to understand that skin cells take about 28 days to regenerate. New skin cells regenerate at the basal layer which is the deepest skin layer of the epidermis. These skin cells that are born gradually divide to regenerate new cells and change shape and appearance as they move along by pushing through different layers. Slowly and gradually they become dead and slough away in a constant cycle of the renewal process.

So how often can we go for the treatment?
28 days is the time skin cells take to regenerate and rise to the surface. Thus, this is the average time gap required between two medifacials. 24 hours after the treatment the skin looks clean and complexion is pink. 48 to 72 hours later the skin starts purging impurities and then up to 5 to 7 days skin might still be healing. Additionally, the skin is waiting for new cells to come up to the surface. Depending on the treatment being done and aggressiveness of the session the time gap can often vary. So, let us have a look at different concerns and its treatments:

1. Medifacials for Acne
If someone is following a series of treatments for acne, they generally include a combination of light chemicals peels which can often be repeated at the gap of 2 weeks to maximum 4 weeks apart. Certain acne facials include extraction of impurities like blackheads and whiteheads which might have slight redness and flakiness as downtime. Hence, can be repeated at the gap of 3 weeks to 4 weeks after reassessment of the skin by your expert.

2. Medifacials for Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation includes dark spots, uneven patches, skin inflammation and melasma which can appear due to multiple causes. These pigmentation concerns are often treated with chemical peels which can again be done at the gap of 2 weeks to 4 weeks. Whereas on the other hand light therapy or laser treatments can also be performed at the gap of 3 to 4 weeks. But the frequency can often vary and can be decided by the dermatologist depending on the present severity and skin sensitivity.

3. LED-based Facials
Often LED light therapy based treatments are done to treat pimples/acne and signs of ageing as they stimulate collagen and kill acne causing bacteria. Such mild facials can often be repeated at the gap of one week.

4. Facials for Anti-ageing
Anti-ageing facials are often aggressive and tend to have longer downtime where skin healing is required for about a week. Further collagen takes about 3 to 4 weeks to build up and improve the signs of ageing. Hence, it is recommended to repeat such facials at the gap of minimum 4 weeks to a maximum of 6 weeks of the period.

5. Oxyfacials
Skin polishing and hydration treatments that pump the hydrating serums and other glow serums to the skin help to add the shine and lustre. These help to combat dryness and maintain hydration levels of the skin using jet stream. The oxygen, water, and serums like vitamin C are sprayed at high pressure right into the epidermis of the skin which also helps in infusing vital serums and nutrients to the skin that can be repeated at a gap of one week.

So, make a calendar and keep a check on the day count for the next visit to the dermatologist. Get the skin analysed and a treatment plan customized as per skin’s requirement to enhance the texture, glow, and health of the skin.
