The monsoon season brings a sense of rejuvenation along with rains and cool breeze. But, at the same time, it increases the risk of several diseases. Monsoon is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, fungal infections, and other health concerns like cold and flu.
And, hence, tough times call for tough actions and preventive measures!
It’s better to be safe than sorry.
So, follow these monsoon skincare tips by Dr. Nivedita Dadu, a leading skin specialist in Delhi, and you are good to go!
1. Use minimal makeup
Heavy makeup during monsoon makes it difficult for the pores to breathe because of the humidity and moisture in the atmosphere. Use CC or BB creams as they’re light in their formulation and won’t make your makeup caky. Try to use as light and subtle makeup as possible. Replace lipstick with lip tints and give your lips a natural look.
2. Never forget applying a Sunscreen
Yes, just because it’s monsoon (more clouds, less sunlight) doesn’t mean you can skip using sunscreen. UV rays still surround you as they can penetrate through the clouds and harm the skin. Use a minimum of SPF 30+ and PA rating +++ to protect your skin from the invisible UV Rays.
“But, why do I need to use Sunscreen? I stay indoors all day. I am working from home!”
Just like the UV rays penetrate the clouds, they can penetrate your windows too. So, staying indoors is not an excuse to skip using sunscreen. Sunscreen provides a shield against harmful UV rays which can cause skin darkening (tanning, sunburn, sun spots, freckles, etc.) and premature aging (fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sagging). However, the results of sun damage may not appear when you’re young but it will show later in life. Exposure to UV rays speeds up the aging process. So, irrespective of your age, gender, season it is vital to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every single day!
3. Use a Clay Mask
Using clay masks can be highly beneficial for the skin during monsoon and summer, especially for oily skin. The humid and sticky atmosphere in the rainy season can make the skin excessively oily. Clay masks help absorb the excess oil and keep oiliness at bay. Try clay masks with aloe vera, green tea, or other anti-bacterial ingredients. These will aid in eliminating bacteria and impurities that may cause breakouts.
4. Hydrate
You sweat a lot during the monsoon that can make your skin dull and dry. The most important and feasible step to get glowing and vibrant skin this monsoon is to consume a minimum of 3 liters of water daily.
Not only the water makes your skin glow but also keeps you healthy. Did you know that water helps balance out your mood swings by filtering out toxins from your body? It’s never a bad idea to be healthy, is it?
5. Use Anti-Fungal Powder
Don’t forget about your body while taking care of your face. Monsoon invites a lot of skin problems like fungal infections. Do apply an anti-fungal powder after a bath. Apply it on the skin folds where chances of catching the infection are more such as the armpits and between the fingers.
These are general preventive care tips. However, if you are already facing skin problems, you are advised to consult your dermatologist to understand the treatment options.
Keep Healthy! Keep glowing!
