Photofacials

The IPL  device at Dr. Nivedita’s  dermatology clinic, has a  chill tip which keep the tip cool and an  ultrasound gel is used  to glide over on your face. It emits short bursts of light onto your skin. Treatments typically last about an hour.

If needed, Makeup can be applied immediately. After the treatment, your skin will feel smoother and have a more even tone. After each treatment, a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing, age spots, and fine lines can be seen

If you expose yourself to sunlight frequently without using a good sunscreen as prescribed by the dermatologist, the skin problems like dark spots or redness will start emerging again. But if you take good care of your skin and keep yourself protected from sun, your skin will continue to look good with annual maintenance treatments.

If you want to maintain collagen growth, we recommend a treatment every few months, after the initial series of treatments as prescribed by the doctor.

The light will pass through the outer layer of skin (the epidermis) and gently heats the cells (fibroblasts) in the deeper layer of skin (dermis). These cells begin to make more collagen, which improves texture and fine wrinkles.

No, it does not. You can have the treatments done any time of the year. The best part is effects of the treatment  last very long if you are wearing a sunscreen .To protect your skin and decrease redness, brown spots and wrinkles, wear a sunscreen every morning.

Dr. Nivedita will give you instructions prior to your first treatment but here are some of the basics. Before your treatment, avoid excessive sun. You may be asked to discontinue photosensitizing medicines few days prior to every treatment. It is suggested to use sunscreen every day after the treatment to protect your skin. You can also wear sunglasses and hats or use an umbrella to protect yourself from from the sun. For enhanced results, it is important that you follow skin care regime recommended by Dr. Nivedita.

Avoid laser treatments in pregnancy because no testing has been done.

There are no side effects expected.

It has been described as feeling like repeated warm snaps from a rubber band, similar to laser hair removal. The sensation is caused by the dual-action light and pulsation of the hand piece. The light it emits produces heat; while the pulsation patterns snap as they come in contact with your skin.

For starters, the recovery time is very short. It doesn’t involve the red, raw, scabbed over areas of a chemical peel that often take upwards of 1-3 weeks to heal. In fact, very little damage is done to the surface of your skin. In this case the treatment that occurs happens in the supportive, structured layers underneath. This allows the increase in collagen to flow upwards without actually sloughing your skin off. Many people can get a photofacial during their lunch hour and return to work as though nothing happened.
